Block Spam Calls on iPhone & Android (2026 Guide)

Spam calls remain a persistent nuisance for smartphone users, but fortunately, modern devices now include tools to combat them directly. Both Android and iPhone offer built-in features that can block or screen many unwanted calls without requiring paid applications.

Filtering Unwanted Calls on iPhone

If you have an iPhone, navigate to Settings > Apps > Phone. Under the Call Filtering section, enable “Spam” to automatically send calls identified as junk by your carrier directly to voicemail. These calls can be reviewed in the Phone app’s Calls tab under the Spam section. The Unknown Callers option further organizes call logs by separating recent calls from numbers not saved in your contacts.

Android's Built-in Protection

On Android, particularly Samsung devices, be aware that blocking settings can sometimes inadvertently filter legitimate calls. To avoid this, access the Phone app’s Settings (via the three-dot menu) and toggle off “Block calls from unknown numbers.” This prevents rejection of calls where caller ID is hidden or withheld.

Carrier Services & Reporting

Your mobile carrier may also provide spam protection features. These services are sometimes enabled by default, but it’s worth checking your online account or the carrier's app to confirm and activate if necessary. For suspicious texts, including political messages, replying with “STOP,” “cancel”, or “unsubscribe” can help opt you out of future communications. You can also report junk texts using your phone’s built-in features or by forwarding them to 7726 (SPAM).
