PEGI Removes Controversial GTA 6 Age Rating Listing
The Pan European Game Information (PEGI) board has taken down a controversial age rating page for 'Grand Theft Auto VI' that had sparked significant debate among gamers and media outlets. The PEGI listing, which was briefly visible on October 2nd, detailed the game's mature content including decapitation, cocaine use, and sexual scenes.
The removal of this information has left many questioning its authenticity and accuracy. While Rockstar Games and PEGI have not issued any official statements confirming or denying the contents of the leaked page, gaming media outlets such as IGN and tech-insider.org reported extensively on the details before they were removed.
Details of Controversial Content
The now-deleted PEGI listing reportedly included descriptions of players being able to snort cocaine directly from their hand at any time within the game. Additionally, it mentioned scenes involving sexual fetishes and strong language that could be considered offensive by many.
Other details highlighted in the brief appearance of the page include the ability for players to harm domestic animals with less graphic detail than human characters, as well as discriminatory language heard throughout the game's environment such as radio stations and TV shows. The rating also noted the presence of in-game purchases that are optional but available.
Official ESRB Rating Confirmed
In contrast to the now-deleted PEGI listing, the official Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has confirmed an M for Mature 17+ rating with descriptors covering blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, use of drugs and alcohol.
