Dominant Performance by Drew Rasmussen
Tampa Bay Rays' pitcher Drew Rasmussen delivered an exceptional performance on Saturday night, pitching eight innings and allowing only one hit to secure a 1-0 victory over the New York Yankees in their ALDS opener. Despite the Yankees scoring 18 runs against Boston just days prior, they managed no hits until Austin Wells doubled with two outs in the eighth inning.
The Only Hit of the Night
Austin Wells' double was quickly negated when he attempted to stretch it into a triple but was thrown out at third base. This play highlighted the Rays' defensive prowess and Rasmussen's control, who struck out 10 batters while walking just two.
The Impact of Aaron Judge’s Absence
Though the Yankees were missing three-time AL MVP Aaron Judge due to a calf injury sustained on September 16th, their lineup still struggled against Rasmussen. The Rays' defense and pitching strategy effectively stifled any offensive attempts by the Yankees.
