President Donald Trump says he's weighing three courses of action against Iran, including military strikes or economic sanctions. The situation has become a focal point during this week’s UN General Assembly.
In an interview with Fox News, President Trump stated that his options include “wiping out” Iran, allowing the country to suffer economically, or negotiating a deal. He also mentioned considering more extreme measures such as destroying the entire nation. Meanwhile, Iran has threatened retaliatory strikes on U.S. bases and outlined its own conditions for ending hostilities.
Senator John Barrasso emphasized that preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons must remain a priority. The conflict escalated further when Iranian-backed Houthi rebels launched attacks in Saudi Arabia, including Riyadh's capital city. Democratic Senator Elissa Slotkin has urged President Trump to press Chinese leader Xi Jinping on evidence linking China to recent attacks involving satellite imagery.
The meeting between Presidents Trump and Xi is expected to discuss Iran among other issues. Both leaders will be present at the U.N. General Assembly, setting up a potentially dramatic diplomatic moment.
