Acura is charting a new course with a business roadmap revealed to its U.S. dealers, outlining the introduction of three new SUV models and advanced powertrain technologies. This strategy aims to expand the brand's presence into new market segments, foster customer loyalty, and attract new buyers.
New SUV Lineup Expansion
The brand's product offensive begins in the first part of 2028 with the launch of an "adventure-ready" Acura SUV, designed to offer enhanced capability for outdoor activities combined with premium styling and technology. Following this, the fourth-generation Acura RDX is slated for a 2028 market entry. This RDX will be the first Acura model to feature the company's award-winning two-motor hybrid-electric technology. Additionally, Acura is developing its largest vehicle ever, an 8-passenger SUV, to meet increasing demand for family-oriented premium vehicles. This new model will be positioned above the current three-row MDX.
Powertrain Advancements
In parallel with new model introductions, Acura is investing in powertrain development. A new V6 hybrid powertrain is under development for Acura's D-segment models. This new powertrain is engineered to deliver sporty performance, improved towing capabilities, and enhanced environmental efficiencies. The integration of Honda's two-motor hybrid system into the next-generation RDX marks a significant step towards broader hybrid adoption within Acura's core lineup.
Strategic Vision
Eiji Fujimura, president & CEO of American Honda, stated, "We are making a big commitment to Acura by delivering products and services that meet the needs of our customers at all life stages, which will create a sustainable long-term direction for the brand." The business foundation is focused on customer needs, delivering premium value, and increasing speed to market to ensure competitiveness.
